Kavi Dalsania
Hello everyone,
My name is Kavi Dalsania, and I’m honoured to be starting this journey alongside you as a first-year medical student here at the University of Ottawa. I was born and raised right here in Ottawa, completed my undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at Queen’s University, and am thrilled to be back in the city I call home. I’m running to be your Class President because I truly believe in the power of a strong, united, and supported cohort, and I want to make sure our voices are heard, both within our program and beyond.
Advocating for Our Student Voice
One of my top priorities is ensuring that the voices of our class are consistently heard and respected by faculty, administration, and other cohorts. To do this, I plan to implement open, anonymous feedback forms throughout the year, giving everyone the opportunity to raise concerns, share ideas, and express opinions freely. I will compile and present this feedback to the appropriate faculty and student representatives to ensure your perspectives are accurately represented. Our voices matter, and I want to make sure they carry weight.
Strengthening Cohort Connections
Another key focus of mine is to strengthen the bridge between cohorts. Transitioning into medical school can be overwhelming, and I want to establish a structured system for communication and mentorship between year levels; essentially an expanded “Med Buddy” system, where upper years can share advice, study strategies, and lived experiences to help us thrive academically and personally.
Building Community
I want to create an environment where our class feels like more than just classmates; a true community. This means organizing regular social events and wellness activities, such as a friendly sports tournament or more relaxed activities like trivia nights, to help us build friendships and support networks within our cohort. Additionally, I want to connect our class with the broader Ottawa community through local partnerships and sponsorships, showcasing the spirit of MD 2029 while giving back to the city. Having grown up here, I would love to help our class build lasting roots and relationships in Ottawa.
Why Me?
I bring a blend of leadership experience, organizational skills, and passion for community building. While at Queen’s, I served as the Finance Executive for the Faculty of Health Sciences, where I was able to secure free Red Bull for all incoming students, a sponsorship I aim to continue for MD 2029 to make our events even more exciting and memorable.
Most importantly, I am someone who will actively advocate for your needs. For example, when I learned that our class would not be receiving white coats this year, I spoke with the Class President of MD 2028 and urged them to push faculty to reverse the decision. Thanks to that advocacy, and as you already know, the white coats will now be given to us this year.
I am committed to working with you and for you. Together, we can make this year one to be proud of.
Let’s make MD 2029 stronger, together.
