Matthew Wei
Hello, Class of 2028. It has been an honor to represent you this past year and I am grateful for the opportunity to run for re-election to be your class president!
This year has reaffirmed my belief that what sets a good class apart from a great one is undoubtedly the student experience. This year, I’ve returned with a revised platform. While my focus continues to be your student experience, I bring forward new insight and experience from representing you this past year.
I’d like to use this platform to both reflect on the successes of the year, as well as set new goals based on the 3 pillars of your student experience:
1. Academic Experience
2. Community Engagement
3. Faculty Support
Academic Experience:
1. Holding the faculty accountable for delivering the quality of education we deserve!
a. Successes: Professors receive at least two reminders to submit slides before lectures and numerous misplaced slide decks were corrected before lectures this year.
b. Goal: Further reducing the number of lectures with outdated slides.
2. Advocating for recorded lectures.
a. Success: Another year where slides are continuing to be recorded!
b. Goal: While the faculty considers moving all lectures in-person, Anne-Marie and I will continue to stand firm that recording the live-lectures is greatly beneficial for students.
3. Resolving problems swiftly and efficiently.
a. Successes: Mediated the resolution of many students’ personal concerns with faculty.
b. Goals: Staying connected with peers to quickly relay problems.
Community Engagement:
1. Designing class merchandise
a. Success: Facilitated the Spring sweater/backpack sale, and Patagonia distribution.
b. Goals: Creating unique merch (e.g. Yeti mugs) with different designs.
2. Organizing fitting dates in RGN
a. Success: Our last fitting date was a majorly popular and received great feedback.
b. Goal: Continuing this event so that you can get the right fit on the first try!
3. Collaborating more with ASOC on fun class events
a. Success: Become well accustomed to the inner workings of ASOC.
b. Goal: Supporting our new ASOC VP’s and their initiatives to maximize how many fun class events we can have next year.
Faculty Support:
1. Maintaining honesty and transparency with both the class and faculty.
a. Successes: Bringing up as many concerns and complaints as possible with the faculty.
b. Goals: Supporting the MD2029 class, especially on issues we experience in first year.
2. Acting as an approachable point of contact
a. Successes: Being someone you feel comfortable giving your messages to the faculty.
b. Goal: Becoming a friendly face for the MD2029’s too :3.
3. Representing every voice in the class equally and fairly.
a. Successes: Treating all concerns for the faculty with equal care and urgency.
b. Goal: To continue representing you in 2025/2026!
I am thankful for the opportunity to represent you throughout 2024/2025. Please consider, once-again, granting me the privilege of representing you as your class president. I promise to fight for our year, our class and our student experience.
